January is National Radon Action Month!
The EPA sponsors National Radon Action Month to increase the public’s awareness of radon, promote radon testing and mitigation, and advance the use of radon-resistant new construction practices.
Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. It’s inert, colorless and odorless and can be found in nearly all soils. Radon typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation, where it can become trapped, causing health concerns for inhabitants.
Because you can’t see or smell radon, testing is the only way to know your level of exposure. Radon can have a big impact on your Indoor Air Quality.
